Leading tech companies reveal their inventions years ahead, but these papers are dense and focused on science, not product opportunities.
Now, LLMs translate this scientific complexity into accessible insights. (OK, this would have replaced part of my last role at Adobe 😳)
Imagine taking a highly scientific paper and converting it into:
✴ A TITLE that we can all understand
✴ WHY the technology matters
✴ CUSTOMERS who might benefit from the technology
✴ NAMEs of features or products
✴ POTENTIAL -- for how big the market might be
✴ RISKS - What are the risks involved in the new tech
✴ COMPETING IDEAS in the space
… and on and on and on.

Give it a try.
➊ Find the research papers:
♦ Research labs: Google DeepMind | Google | Microsoft Research | Meta | Adobe Research | Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research | MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL)
♦ AI Conferences: NeurIPS, [ICML] Int'l Conference on Machine Learning, CVPR, ICLR, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), ACL, and ACM SIGGRAPH.
➋ Download a .pdf of a paper, upload it to ChatGPT4o
➌Start with a prompt like this:
► ////Act as an expert who can bridge between scientific research and practical applications. Write in the style of the author Michael Lewis and target the writing to a 12th-grade level. Create a report that includes:
(a) Under the heading “TITLE,” write a compelling title that can be easily understood
(b) in a paragraph titled “WHY,” a statement on why this technology matters
(c) in a paragraph titled “CUSTOMERS,” a statement on how customers might use the technology. Create a sentence for each for professionals, education, and consumers.
(d) In a paragraph titled “NAMES” create five compelling names for the product or features that could come from this technology
(e) in a paragraph titled, “POTENTIAL,” create a narrative describing how this technology could create a new $1B market
(f) in a paragraph titled, “RISKS” highlight any risks in bringing this technology to market. Include bias, misuse, and nefarious usage by bad actors.
(g) in a paragraph titled, “COMPETING IDEAS”, highlight the other researchers or companies that are working on similar ideas
(h) what are some of the critical areas I’ve missed?\\\\
➍ From here, you’ll want to probe with prompts like:
► “Give me more information on the section about ____”
► “What might this mean for a customer in the [animation / biotech / fintech / etc] market”
► “Modify this to an audience of a [legal advisor / CFO / Series A investor / etc]”
► “Rewrite this in the style of [The MIT Tech Review / Wired / Hunter S Thompson / etc]”
There's so much more... If you are interested in learning more, drop me a line.
